The Grantecan (Gran telescopio de Canarias) is already opperative since 24th July 2009 in Roque de los Muchachos Observatory in the IAC (Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias) in La Palma.  Their majesties the king and queen of Spain  Don Juan carlos and Doña Sofía presided over the event.
